Poly Prep Varsity Girls Fall to Tough Hackley Team

In their last match of the week, Poly Prep Girls’ Varsity played against Hackley for the second time this season. The girls hoped to avenge their 0-7 loss from three weeks before, but without three of their top 7 players (Grace Bell, Lena Khalifa, and Isabella Plotnik all out due to illness), the Blue Devils knew it would be a challenging task. Freshman Lily Rosenblum, JV number one, joined the Varsity at the number seven position and fought hard to extend the rallies, but her Hackley opponent proved to be too strong.

Eighth grader, Kim Burke, had the only win of the afternoon at the number four position. Burke came out with force, using her soft touch in the front of the court and her powerful length to keep her opponent under pressure at all times. Burke’s focus and intensity only increased in the second and third games, which helped her to achieve a decisive 3-0 victory over her Hackley opponent.

The Varsity girls have one match left against Riverdale, on Wednesday 2/6, and will use the match as a warm up for High School Nationals a few days later!
