Poy Prep Girls Defeat Packer

To start the week, the Blue Devils faced Packer for the second time this season on Monday, January 14th on their home courts. Unfortunately, the majority of the Packer squad was struck with the flu and only four girls were able to attend the match, leaving the remaining three positions as defaults for Poly.

Packer’s players came out firing, knowing they had to win all of their matches in order to take the team victory. But Poly’s top four players stepped up their games against some of the top ranked players in the country. Lizzy Lasusa, and Olivia Doran at the two and three positions, played extremely focused squash, as they created long rallies, but ultimately could not stop their more experienced opponents.

At the number one position, Grace Bell came out strong as she controlled each rally and effectively moved her opponent around the court to take the first game 11-7. But Mendez from Packer came back with force to take the next three games. In the most important win of the afternoon, eighth grader, Kim Burke played steady squash and used her controlled drop shots to beat her Packer opponent at the number four position, thus giving Poly the overall victory, 4-3.
