Start of the season (September 24th, 2012)

For a lot of players the season has already kicked off and been well underway since the Aussie Open last month. I played and made the Semi’s in that, then lost first round to Hurricane Golan in the Malaysian Open 3 weeks later. 2 very different results but I feel I am playing the way I need to play, to push up the rankings. It’s always interesting to see changes the players have made during their time off and what they are going to bring into their game for the new season. It’s safe to say The Momenator has hit some form. 2 wins on the trot and moving like a dream around the court. He doesn’t exactly lunge into his shots, but slide into them at full pace! Good bloke and looks like he’ll be causing some upsets this season.

Unfortunate to see Darwish and Shabs have pulled out of the BGP. Darwish also withdrew in Malaysia so something is not good there. Shabs won the Symphony Showdown in Boston with Ramy so he either hurt himself playing or won the thing injured. Talented boy. The injury may even put his golf on the backburner for the time being. He hasn’t been playing long but goes alright, even though I reckon he should be swinging the club left handed not right! Speaking of golf, I managed to have a few rounds back home in Yamba when I was in Oz, and also in Malaysia with Swiss young gun Nici Mueller. Steaming hot day in KL, we managed to hit the course and wreak havoc. I lost most the balls (at least 10) but Nici had a great little club throw in there too. That 7 iron got some serious hang time. Anger Management for the young fella I think.

My eyes are now on the US Open in a few weeks and it will be good to visit Philly again, home of the Great White (of the John variety). I wonder if he’s done some weights in the past 12 months and wants to have another crack at the top speed hit. A speed gun is actually a nice little addition to any tournament, with spectators and fans able to see how hard they can hit the ball compared to the Pro’s. Speaking of which, I’m off to work on my biceps….or lack of.
