High School Nationals Report - Day 1

After an early departure from Poly Prep, the Boy's and Girl's JV and Varsity arrived to the biggest and most prestigious high school event in the world, the US Squash High School Nationals boasting a playing field of 140 teams and 1300 participants. Playing at four different venues, the teams began their trip at Yale with the Boy's JV playing their first match at 10:00AM. The Boy's JV were confident and not deterred by their low seed, facing a more experience team, The Gow School. The JV continued their winning streak from the regular season, achieving a 6-1 result showing their worth among other varsity teams. Both the Boy's Varsity and the Girl's JV played at 12:00PM at Wesleyan University, where there was a lively atmosphere highlighted by near first round upsets in Division 4. The boys playing in the same division cemented their status as a contender for the division title with
an emphatic and convincing 7-0 victory over a solid Trinity-Pawling team.

Tomorrow, they look to continue their run in the second round at Trinity College, where they face Malvern Prep, as they push toward the evening semi-final match. The Girl's JV faced two talented and experienced teams in their round robin, Green Farms and Rye School, and while they lost both matches, every player displayed tremendous effort, running for every ball. After a long day of watching squash at two different venues, the Girl's Varsity made their way to Trinity for their first round match against Winsor School, the number two seed in their division. The girls came out focused and determined, making their opponents work for every point, but ultimately could not stop the more experienced Winsor team. The girls have another early morning with a 8:00AM match at Wesleyan, but are eager and ready to face Nardin Academy in the consolation plate.

The always enthusiastic Poly Prep squash team is heading to bed and we look forward to sharing our results with you tomorrow!
