The Season That Was (June 7, 2012)

Somehow I managed to stay in the World’s Top 20 after that shocker of a season! Definitely not the season I was after but then again, you can’t always have the perfect season.

Following the British Open I had 3 days of doubles testing in Birmingham and since then I’ve had some time off to relax and get away from squash. It is an absolute must to switch off from squash every now and then. During the tournament season it is literally all you do – squash, squash, squash 24/7. Playing events, booking flights, training, organizing this and that. But after chilling in Holland for a bit and visiting Antwerp for a few days (that place has some wicked second hand stores!), I’m slowly getting back into it. I watched a few squash clips on YouTube the other day and now I am keen as mustard to get back into the training.

I’ve managed to sneak a few games of golf in as well as a couple of sneaky parties. There was quite a large night out after the British Open in London with a heap of Pro’s painting the town red. Literally.

The Dutch ‘summer’ is proving to be a second winter by the looks of things. Even though the weather is shitty, there is a heap of sport happening at the moment so that should help ease the pain of being indoors. Two of Australia’s best hip hop groups are also coming to Amsterdam in the summer so it’s not all doom and gloom.

I have two full months of training before I head off to the Australian Open in August. I guess the main objective for the next 2 months is to improve in all areas of my game. I’ll be doing the bulk of my training in The Hague, Holland but might be popping around Europe to see what’s happening elsewhere. A little hobby I’ve got going at the moment is to improve my running writing! (Hand writing/cursive/joined up writing). The art of actual writing (not typing) is/has gone out the window, especially with predictive everything and swype. My writing is pretty shithouse at the moment so I’m looking to improve that as well as my squash this summer!
