Popular Uganda squash captain Mike Kawooya is in hospital with a broken leg suffered soon after his return home after playing in the Commonwealth Games.

Kawooya, 38, was injured during a road accident while travelling on a “boda boda” taxi bike.

Mike said: “I was heading home after training at the squash club when I got involved in an accident on a boda boda bike.

“My leg got broken and I have spent three days in hospital before being transferred to Mulago. I am now waiting for my operation this week on Friday and hopefully all will go well.”

Mike competed in his fourth Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and made history by winning his first round match in the men’s singles.

While in Birmingham he met up with 10-times British Open champion Jahangir Khan and also received a donation of rackets and equipment from the Lichfield Squash Club to help grow the game back home in Uganda.

All of us at Squash Mad wish Mike a speedy recovery.
