The Metropolitan Squash Racquets Association Becomes NY Squash

It’s our favorite week of the year: Squash Week in New York! Our Grand Open tournament, the world’s largest singles amateur adult squash event, and the pro Tournament of Champions, one of the world’s most widely attended pro events, highlight a fantastic week of squash. We have news to share as well.

New York has the largest local squash organization in the country, and thanks to you the most active. We’re proud of our 87-year history serving the squash community and are always looking to improve the experience for players. In the past few years we have doubled the size of the city-wide singles league, launched a doubles league for city and suburban teams, created one-day tournaments, partnered with urban squash programs, and hosted round robins, beginners clinics and social events for our 3,000+ members and other squash players from around the country.

As a result of last summer’s member survey, we are re-naming our organization to reflect the sport’s dynamic nature and New York’s ever-expanding squash community. We think the new name is easy to identify and simple to explain. US Squash (formerly the USSRA) and other regional organizations have gone through similar processes recently.

And so, we’re pleased to announce that the Metropolitan Squash Racquets Association is becoming New York Squash.

We’re rolling out the new brand over the next few months, starting with an unveiling of our new logo at Squash Week and ending with the launch of a new website later this year. The website will improve our communications with you, and make it easier to keep track of and participate in everything going on in the squash world. We’re finalizing the site and still using www.msra.net in the interim, so please continue to check in for the latest news and events.

We are proud of our heritage as the MSRA, and hope that the NY Squash brand will launch us into an exciting future. Stop by our booth this week at the Tournament of Champions in Grand Central Station to check out the new logo and pick up a gift. And if you are playing in the Grand Open, good luck!
