Mahmoud Asal, father of embattled World No.1 Mostafa, has poured scorn on the “unprecedented” and “severe” sanctions imposed upon his son, while also claiming that the young star has received multiple offers to switch allegiances from Egypt.

In an extraordinary and lengthy rant on Facebook, Asal senior claimed that his son faced “pressures, and obstacles, to disrupt his career in the game and prevent him from achieving major successes in the name of Egypt.”

Mahmoud also suggested that Mostafa had been subjected to “major distortion campaigns” regarding his two bans by the PSA.

The 21-year-old Egyptian was handed a six-week ban by the PSA this month, leaving him to miss the Optasia and British Open. He can return for May’s World Championships.

Asal senior said: “All these obstacles arise for reasons: absurd, false, false claims, untrue claims, unrelated to sports, and personal interests of some players of a rival club, and it is astonishing that all the suspensions were caused by claims of Egyptian players from another club and the sponsor of the Federation, is this a coincidence?”

Mahmoud also claimed that his son’s bans, as well as his own for an altercation courtside earlier this season, allegedly had interference and conflicts of interest from Wadi Degla officials, which is a rival to Asal’s Al-Ahly Club.

He added: “I don’t know who benefits from stopping my son, the world champion and the first world-ranker twice and stopping me as his father for a whole year?! These are consecutive penalties, severe, violent, without any reason, unprecedented in the history of squash sport, which negatively affects Mustafa Asal’s career and affects the psychological side due to his great association with me and my support for his sporting career since childhood.”

Mahmoud also stated that his son had received “numerous offers” to switch nationalities – as recent as his rise to the top of the PSA rankings – but confirmed that Mostafa would continue to represent Egypt.

Regarding the sponsor of the Egyptian Open, CIB bank, Asal senior also wrote: “The other thing I want to talk about is the fact that the official sponsor of the Egyptian Federation has issued comprehensive reports on the events of Mustafa Asal’s matches with his sponsors and pressure on the World Professional Association to stop him and threaten not to hold and sponsor the championships in Egypt if he participates in them.”

Meanwhile, a petition was launched over Mostafa’s ‘unjust’ ban and calls for the PSA to the lift the sanction with immediate effect.
