This 2000 Under-19 Swiss National Singles champion, who later played a major role in Trinity College’s Potter Cup (emblematic ofthe U. S. National Collegiate Team champion) titles from 2003-06, has shown a penchant for beginning his partnerships with former Trinity teammates with a bang: in his first appearance with Bantam co-alumnus Jonny Smith in the fall of 2009, they barged to and almost through the U. S. Pro final, leading Chris Walker and Mark Chaloner two-love and later 10-6 in the fourth before losing on simultaneous-championship-point, and in his debut performance this past November with 2009 Trinity co-captain Manek Mathur, they stunned Clive Leach and Matt Jenson in the first round, then out-played Raj Nanda and Paul Price in the semis.

It was the first career advance to an ISDA full-rankingfinal for Badan, who did team with Eric Vlcek to win the ’08 Pittsburgh Cup,a Challenger event, by defeating James Hewitt and Mark Chaloner in the final. Badan and Mathur subsequently qualified into the Big Apple Open (withan exciting 3-2 win over Joe Pentland and Steve Scharff), captured the Buffalo Challenger with a four-game final over Hewitt and Chris Deratnay and qualified into the Philly Pro event as well. The two recent Trinity College graduates, both currently based at the Apawamis Club in Rye, have become for sure the hottest new team on the circuit and, with the “surprise” factor no longer present after their four consecutive praise-worthy results, it will be interesting to see if they can consolidate these early gains as the winter/spring portion of the season moves forward.
