BSPA Nottingham: Simpson takes title
Chris Simpson 3-1 Shaun Le Roux (12/10 5/11 13/11 11/7) 71 minutes
After an absorbing 71 minutes of high quality squash Chris Simpson overcame PSL team mate Shaun Le Roux to win the inaugural FantasySquash Nottingham Open.
Game one saw Simpson come out the blocks the quicker and having taken an early he pushed on to 9/3. Le Roux tidied up his length and slowly chipped away at the deficit to force a tiebreak, however Simpson managed to find two fine winners just in time to secure the game.
Le Roux got hot in the second and two good runs of points eased him through in the shortest game of the match.
The third game was by far the most level of the match and ultimately it would prove crucial. Le Roux forced his way into an early lead courtesy of some winners and some uncharacteristic errors from his opponent. Simpson though was able to steady ship and having saved 2 games balls he stole the game on his second, and like game one courtesy of two exquisite winners.
Despite a sharp start to game four Le Roux was unable to push on and Simpson, having draw level from 1/5, romped through match ball. Two were saved, however on the third a backhand volley drop was just out of reach for Le Roux and it was match and title to the Guernsey player.
Fingers crossed we’ll be back bigger next year…
