New York Squash's Hyder Trophy began in 1969 and now stands as the continent's largest continually running softball squash tournament. The tournament has always attracted a great local pro following, but starting in 2008, the event began to consistently attract top international players. No doubt this is in large part due to the NY metro area's status as a training destination for many international pros, but also because of the value many pros get from playing in the Hyder Trophy.

Unlike other professinlal  tournaments which may present draw restricitons and ranking point penalties for players, the Hyder Trophy is an independent event where players get match play against some of the world's best players. In addition, the friendly and festive end of season event is a highlight for many players.

Alister Walker (current world #13) is the event's top seed. While the last six months have not matched his performance in 2012, when he won two titles and was finalist in a third, his athleticism and pace put him into the top chair.

Hyder Trophy newcomer Hisham Ashour is the event's #2 seed. While currently the world's number 35 player, Ashour was ranked below Walker last year at number 11 and has to be a threat to win. And even though Wael El Hindi is technically not in the top 300 in the world due to inactivity, recent results and his status as the defending Hyder Trophy champion place him as the #3 seed. Ryan Cuskelly (#28), Julian Illingworth (#24) and Zac Alexander (#50) round out the top six.

The draw also features several top young players who were each All American collegians, such as Chris Binnie, Ramit Tandon and Chris Callis.

In addition, there will be a large -player qualifying draw to select four qualifiers for the main draw. Clive Leach, Richard Chin and Karim Yehia top this draw and each is a player with former top 100 or 200 pro ranking.
