In a hotly contested match before a record crowd, the British Army team won its third straight match over a determined Westchester Squash team 6-2.  Not learning the lesson from its nearby Westchester Country Club, the generous Mamaroneck-based club brought out the beer with the match tied 2-2.  Then the British lion roared and they won the next four matches.  The New York Squash representative sent a twitter to the Princeton Club after the match warning them not to make the mistake again.

The British, enjoyed the fine hospitality of the club, but were careful not to overindulge in the Chinese food since they were scheduled for a three-hour late training session that evening at their clandestine New York City training site referred to as the “Junction.”

A highlight of the evening was the near upset of WO2 Steve Brown by junior Mathieu Rizk of the home club.  Rizk, before a partisan crowd, kept the British veteran player constantly on the move.  The British chairman, after Brown dropped the first game, seemed to threaten Brown with extra duty (or something worse) before Brown turned the match around.

The action moves to the Princeton Club on the 28th.  Apparently the Club has sent for the Tiger to inspire their team.  Here are the Westchester results:

  1. Mike Weinbach (WS) def LTC Simon White 3-2
  2. Capt Chris O’Brien (RLC) def Simon Gill 3-1
  3. WO1 John Swain (RLC) def Mike McManus 3-0
  4. Scott Cooper (WS) def Stuart Heaton (RLC) 3-0
  5. WO2 Andy Black (RLC) def Steve Shaw 3-1
  6. LTC John Roskelly (RLC) def Bob Mulvenal 3-1
  7. Maj Tim Bacon (RLC) def Reid Rosen 3-0
  8. WO2 Steve Brown (RLC) def Mathieu Rizk 3-1
