I would like to nominate Meredeth Quick for the Wedgewood Sportsmans Trophy. Meredeth was an all-American at Princeton University, and competed on the US National Team from 2003-2006. She has competed in three world team championships and was a member of the gold winning team at the 2003 Pan American games. She played on the WISPA tour after college, and achieved her highest ranking of number 37.

I know Meredeth through our mutual love of women's doubles, where she has been partnering in professional events with Stephanie Hewitt. Meredeth won the US championships this year in Rye with Steph. But most importantly, I think Meredeth deserves this award because of what she has given and continues to give back to the game. Last year, when we launched the test league that would eventually become the women's doubles league, I invited four pros to come and have an exhibition at our finals night. There was no money, but I pitched it to them as an opportunity to get to know new and future women's doubles players. Meredeth was the first one to write back to me.

Also, after years of struggling to put together a women's draw at the Southampton Squash Tournament every August, Gary Waite told me to approach some pros, and that we would pair them with high-level ams. Again, the first person to respond back to me was Meredeth. She won the tournament with a recent Trinity College grad who had NEVER played doubles before the weekend. Meredeth is one of two player reps on the US Squash board, along with Richard Chin. She is the youngest member of the board, and an advocate for the women's game.

If there was one American player I would aspire to be like it is her. She also coaches the teams at Poly Prep, where she teachers second grade. I can't think of anyone who is nicer, or who volunteers quicker to continue to expose young women to doubles squash. I thus hope that you will accept my nomination and we can award Meredeth with the Wedgewood Trophy.
