bolauravolleyMassaro Closes Gap On Top Spot In June Rankings

May has wrought some big changes in the WSA World Tour rankings with movement in six of the Top10 positions.

After becoming the first home-winner of the British Open in 12-years last weekend, Laura Massaro has reinforced her position as world No.2 having beaten close rival Raneem El Weleily in the semi-final.  The Englishwoman also closes the gap further on Nicol David after beating the world No.1 in the final of the World Series event.

The biggest Top10 rise comes from the experienced Madeline Perry of Ireland who, after clinching the WSA Tour Silver Texas Open at the beginning of the month, has risen back inside the Top10 to number eight.

Nour El Sherbini, runner-up in the British Open in 2012, see’s her point-average drop after the young Egyptian failed to reach the quarter-finals of this years event.  As a result, the 17-year-old drops six places to No.11 in the rankings, allowing Joelle KingLow Wee WernJenny Duncalf and Natalie Grinham to each move a place higher.

Kasey Brown also re-enters the Top10 for the first time since September, having reached the British Open quarters, whilst Camille Serme’s disappointing loss to unseeded Nour El Tayebhas seen the Frenchwoman drop three places to twelfth.  El Tayeb’s performance last week has earned the Egyptian a four-place leap to No.19, holding a sub-20 ranking for the first time since April 2012.

Line Hansen sees a career high of 21 this month,  Nicolette Fernandes continues her climb up the rankings with a two-place rise to reach a career high of No.26, whilst Siyoli Waters andMegan Craig also broke personal bests of No.34 and No.46 respectively.  Misaki Kobayashi also rises six places to No.36, her highest ranking since October 2012.
