Cornett Wins WSA Sportsmanship Award 2012

The 2012 WSA World Tour Awards will be announced at the opening ceremony of the Cleveland Classic, to be held at the Cleveland Racquet Club, Ohio on the 1st February.

Voted for by an independent panel, the players will be awarded for their achievements last year, and accolades on offer range from Comeback Player of the YearBreakthrough Player of the Year, the Platinum Service Award, and the Heather McKay Player of the Year.

Among those to be praised, is world No.34 Samantha Cornett, who has been presented with the Sportsmanship Award 2012 for her positive attitude and dedication to fair play, both on and off the court.

The 21-year-old from Ottawa, Canada received this year’s award due her exemplary on-court attitude and strong sense of honest fair play, even at the highest levels of competition.  Her willingness and generosity off-court are also excellent attributes, and she sets a fantastic example to all younger players.

This early announcement comes as Cornett was honoured at the Players Party at last week’s WSA Tour Silver 25 J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions event.

Qualifying for the Gold 50 Cleveland Classic starts tomorrow (31st January), with the main draw commencing on the 2nd February.
