If you’ve ever had a question about why playing squash might be good for you, here’s a simple explanation…

Fitness benefits of playing squash…

Playing squash can have a number of positive health and fitness benefits. Here are some of those key benefits:

  • Improved aerobic fitness, with more oxygen circulated throughout the body for better heart, lung and muscular endurance.
  • Burns off calories with energy demands being made of the muscles continually throughout a rally, game and match, with little recovery time.
  • Boosts flexibility and sprint speed, due to the fast-paced nature of the movement and stretching range of motion demands.
  • Improves hand-eye co-ordination with concentration being required throughout a rally, game and match.
  • Develops the strength and power of muscles, notably leg and arm muscles.
  • Furthers concentration and mental strength, with matches often lasting for some time, demanding focus and patience throughout.
  • Boosts a player′s cardiovascular fitness (heart and lungs), allowing more oxygen to be pumped throughout the entire body to help energize muscles.

So all…consider yourself fortunate in having the opportunity to play squash. Squash has few rivals in the sporting world. And remember, while playing our great game, you’re having fun too! It doesn’t get much better than that!

Remember the Forbes Magazine study which said: “Squash Healthiest Sport.” See:http://www.squashplayer.co.uk/sp_latest/forbes_survey.htm.

Footnote: Before playing squash, you should warm up and stretch some to get the blood flowing. Following your match, it’s a good idea to do a little cross-training strength exercises and a warm-down stretch as well.

Happy Squashing!
