PP Girls Edge Brearley

The Poly Prep Girls’ Varsity was excited to face Brearley again for the second time in two weeks, after a 3-4 loss in their first match up. While the varsity squad was missing their number one, Grace Bell, and their number five, Lena Khalifa, (both due to illness), the afternoon proved to be another well-contested and extremely close match. Senior and captain, Nicole Colandrea started off the match with a close 5 game win against Mariam Ahmed of Brearley. This was an impressive and exciting win for Colandrea, who lost to Ahmed in the fifth game only two weeks before.>/p>

Sophomore Isabella Plotnik, followed Colandrea’s lead and put her opponent under pressure in the back of the court with her strong volleys and deep length, taking the match in a close four games. In another rematch from two weeks ago, eighth grader Kim Burke had a slow start, losing the first two games. But Burke quickly changed the momentum and came back strong in the next three games, using her improved backhand to push the ball deep in the court and her quick speed to take revenge on her Brearley opponent.

With the match tied at 3-3, sophomore Lizzy Lasusa, positioned in the number one spot for the first time this season, played her best squash of the season against the experienced Brearley number one. Lizzy used her power and controlled drops to put her opponent under pressure and despite losing the second game, played great squash to take the win in four games, giving the Blue Devils a 4-3 overall victory over Brearley!
